RECALL: Location Based Services – Reconnecting Excluded Communities And Lifelong Learning
Route Mate is an Android application that uses location-based services (e.g. GPS & Google Maps) to help route learning for people with intellectual disabilities and/or additional sensory impairments. The Android app is a major outcome of the RECALL KA3 LLL Project (504970-LLP-1-2009-1-UK-KA3-KA3MP).
Installation
To install the application on an Android phone:
- Ensure that Settings > Applications > Unknown sources is checked. (You can revert this setting after installation.)
- Select the desired Route Mate version from the above links; download should commence.
- Once the download is complete, locate and select the downloaded file.
- Accept the request to install (or update) Route Mate.
A new web site has been set up at routemate.isrg.org.uk which will allow people to register their interest in Route Mate, report problems and discuss the app and strategies foe using it.
This site will also provide access to the final release version of Route Mate, and support documentation

Interim release (no longer available). The following bugs were addressed at this stage:
- Off route warning/sensitivity (#123). Default range from GPS location for activation reduced from 100m to 50m. Value now user configurable (from menu on first screen). Minimum set to 2m.
- Translation issues (#120, #126, #150). Further translation issues (e.g. #127, #128) can be quickly addressed when the update text is provided.
